Every one of us carries a story.
The story of our childhood.
The story of painful relationships.
The story of disappointment.
The story we’ve repeated so many times that it begins to feel like our identity.
Our experiences shape us.
They teach us.
They influence how we see ourselves and the world.
But they don’t have to define the rest of our lives.
One of the most empowering realizations I’ve had on my healing journey is this:
My past explains me.
It doesn’t define me.
There was a time when I believed my old story determined what was possible for my future.
If I had been hurt before, I expected to be hurt again.
If I had struggled with self-worth, I believed confidence belonged to other people.
If I had experienced failure, I assumed success wasn’t meant for me.
But healing challenged those beliefs.
I realized I had been living from an identity that no longer reflected who I was becoming.
Sometimes we continue carrying old stories simply because they’re familiar.
Not because they’re true anymore.
Growth invites us to ask a different question:
Who am I becoming?
Not…
Who have I been?
The future doesn’t need the old story.
It needs your willingness to write a new one.
That doesn’t mean denying your past.
It means honoring it without allowing it to dictate every decision you make moving forward.
You are allowed to become someone your past never imagined.
You are allowed to release identities you’ve outgrown.
You are allowed to believe a different story about yourself.
The next chapter begins the moment you decide the old one no longer gets to hold the pen.
Today, ask yourself:
If I wasn’t living from my old story… what would I choose?
Your future is waiting for that version of you.
